Joomla Cache Settings

A great way to speed up any Joomla website is to use the Joomla cache settings that are provided with Joomla when it is installed, page speed is very important as users will only wait a very short time for your web page to load, if it is to slow users will just go some where else and never visit your website again, cache works by storing the web page so when a user returns to the page in a certain amount of time this page is shown to them and does not need to be pulled from the data base which takes more time.

There are two main areas for cache settings in Joomla the first is under System;Global configuration>system then cache settings, the main setting you need to change here is system cache there are three settings OFF-Cache disabled, ON-Conservative caching and ON-progressive caching these three setting are related to the caching of modules that are in use on your website, conservative caching allows the administrator to turn on or off caching on individual modules this type of caching is ideal for websites that are updated regularly like a blog.

Progressive caching is alot faster than conservative caching as it takes a snapshot of all the modules at once on a particular page and also overrides any settings with in the modules, so when a module is set with no caching it will still be cached on progressive caching this is not the case with conservative caching this will only cache the module if you have cache turned on inside the module settings, progressive caching is not ideal for websites that are updated regually ,any changes you make to the site may not show as the cached version will show, you may need to turn off caching to view any changes you make then turn back on when finished.

The second Joomla settings for caching can be found under Extensions then plugins and search for System page cache, here you will find the one main setting browser caching turning this setting to yes enables the viewers browser to capture a view of the entire page and store the page in there browser, and if they need to return to that page in a certain amount of time this copy is shown to them instead of retrieving the page from your data base which takes longer than copying the page this makes your website faster to your visitors.

window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || []; function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);} gtag('js', new Date()); gtag('config', 'UA-61955280-69');
