Sometimes when you are building your website and using a content management system like Joomla or Wordpress, there will come a time when you need to use some basic coding you may want to add a button in an article or the h1 tag to the heading of your article, the use of coding is not for the absolute beginner you really need to understand what is going on and how it all works.
The HTML heading tags, the H1 tag defines the most important subject or heading on a page and is usually the tittle of an article, the heading tags range from H1 down to H6, so in an article your article tittle is defined inside the H1 tag <h1>This is heading 1</h1> and you should only have one H1 tag per page.
The tag needs to be placed in the article under the code setting and not the editor setting on the article page other wise you will see the code plus the heading, this part of the code is not seen <h1> only the heading in between the tags is seen.
The heading tags are structured down the page, so you have your H1 tittle tag then a block of text in an article and you want another heading for the next section of the article, this heading is the H2 tag as you only want one H1 tag per webpage, you can have as many H2 tags as you want. Below is how the tags are seen on your article, the H1 the most important is the largest text and moving down to the H6 tag defining a less important subject is the smallest heading.
These HTML tags are relevant and important to your websites seo, the H1 tag in your article needs to contain one of your keywords that you are trying to rank for in Google, and they are used in conjunction with the articles meta description tag we talked about in a previous article Meta Tags Explained, the tags define the order of importance to the sections of the page to both the visitor to your website that are reading the article and to the Google bots that index and rank your webpage.
